The first ever plus size fashion show

Hello there!

I figured that I would start my blog with some current events. As you may or may not know, this year's New York Fashion week included the first ever plus size fashion show. Exciting right? You can check out the pics here.

Plus-sized stars such as Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray and ABC Family series Huge), Gabourey Sibide (Precious), model Emme, and KayCee Stroh (High School Musical) attended the event, all looking fabulous, I might ad. See the pic below!

In honor of these plus size stars, I've put together a short list of where you can pick up their looks for relatively cheap. (Please forgive my crappy photo editing!) Enjoy!
1. The skinny pant
  • I've heard many times from many different people that plus sized ladies can't pull off skinny pants. Pshaw, I say. For Nikki and KayCee's black skinny pants, check out Avenue's appropriately named "Most Fabulous Pant," $34.90, available in black, graphite, and dark brown here.
    • Pair with the shirt of your choice. If you want, you can copy Nikki's and KayCee's looks and pair with a sequined tank (starting at $19.99 onestopplus.com) or cropped jacket ($54 torrid.com) and sexy black pumps. I find that skinny pants also pair well with flowy tunics and flats.
2. The empire dress
  • I love an empire dress for the plus sized lady. It's definitely one of my go-to styles. It hits right at the narrow part beneath the breasts and floats away from there, helping to hide lumps and bumps. Check out OneStopPlus' Crochet Empire Dress here, available in black or burgundy for $49.99.
    • If you want to copy Gabourey's look, pair with suede or faux suede slouchy boots. Check out Payless' version here ($34.99 available in wide width and extended calf versions) or Torrid's over-the-knee version here.
3. The goddess dress
  • I absolutely love Emme's dress. I was unable to find any dresses that looked exactly like it, but you can check out Lane Bryant's version here ($59.50).  It has some of the draping detail of Emme's dress but instead of the one shouldered look, it has wide straps on both shoulders (great for those of us who can't pull off the strapless bra look). All of these details make it ideal for everyday wear.
What do you all think about New York Fashion Week's Plus Size Fashion show?

Just a Little Intro

Hello World!

My name is Vicki, the unemployed English major. To help pass the time, I've created this blog for plus size ladies like myself who have a passion for fashion. I, like you my reader, have had trouble finding plus size fashions that don't make me look like a grandma (think elastic waistband jeans and the like). So, to help those like myself, I will be posting tips for finding stylish plus size fashions, as well as makeup tips.

Something else you should know about me: I am frugal. VERY frugal. So you most likely won't be seeing anything obscenely priced posted on here. I come from a solidly middle class family, and have never wasted money on designer clothes. Quite frankly, I never saw the point in spending massive amounts of money on something that will most likely be out of style in a few months. Shoes are a different story, however :)

I am also a foodie! Occasionally, I may post recipes I've prepared and enjoyed.

I hope some plus size fashionistas will join me in this venture. I welcome any input and other comments! I will be updating about every week (with the exception of this week, as I hope to have my first real post up my tomorrow!)
